ESSENTIAL BELIEFS
We recognize that Resonate is home to a variety of people from different faith and denominational backgrounds as well as people with no church background at all. Within Resonate there are different lifestyles, values, and beliefs. There are also well meaning and well intentioned people on all sides of most issues. We understand and are okay with that. We seek unity but not uniformity so we don’t want to be dogmatic in our views on the non salvation issues or arrogant or intolerant in how we hold them. An old and wise theologian used to say: “In Essentials, Unity; in Non-essentials, Liberty, in All Things, Charity.” This pretty much sums it up for us. We want to major in the majors and minor in the minors.  We want to keep love and grace at the forefront of our beliefs and practice. Our highest aim and goal is to love God and love people. We don’t want to get caught up in meaningless arguments, politics, or trivial details. Instead we want to communicate and represent to everyone God’s love, acceptance, forgiveness and the message of hope and eternal life through Jesus Christ. In order to give a general view of our beliefs we have provided these brief statements; however, this is not intended to be an exhaustive statement of faith. For us these are the essentials:

THE BIBLE
The Bible (all of the books of the Old and New Testaments) is the true written message of God to us. It is without fault, completely trustworthy, and we base our life on it. It is the final authority on all matters to which it speaks. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21, Psalm 19:7-11)

THE TRINITY
It is the human explanation for the unexplainable reality that there is One God who exists forever in perfect community as three persons—God the Father, God the Son (Jesus) and God the Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:26-27, Deuteronomy 6:4, Colossians 1:15-17, Hebrews 1:8)

JESUS
He existed forever as God but took on humanity to offer his life as the only perfect sacrifice for all people. He is both fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, was persecuted, suffered, and ultimately died on the cross for all mankind. He rose physically from the dead, and one day will return to earth to reign forever with those who are His. (Matthew 1:18-25, John 1:1-14, 8:40, 58, 11:33, Acts 1:9-11, Romans 5:8-10, Colossians 1:15-17, Hebrews 1:8)

HUMANITY
Humans are created special and precious in the image of God. Each life has value. We were created perfect but each one has fallen short of God’s perfect standard and is in need of salvation. Because of our sin nature we are inherently bad, not ultimately good. As a result humans are incapable of saving themselves and need a Savior. (Genesis 1:26, Romans 3, 5:12-19, Ephesians 2:1-3, 4:18-19)

SALVATION
Salvation from our sinful condition is a free gift from God to us. It is not something we earn or deserve. It is offered in grace and received by faith in Jesus Christ alone. Those who believe in Jesus Christ and call on His name are made right with God and given eternal life. This faith is then demonstrated within the life of the believer through good works. (Ephesians 2:8-10, James 2:14-24, 1 Corinthians 12:13, John 3:16, 14:6; Romans 3:28, 8:31-39)
